Estimated panel width = diagonal × aspect-ratio width ÷ √(aspect-ratio width² + aspect-ratio height²). Add your housing allowance once per screen. Total span = screen width × screen count + the gap between screens.
For example, a 27-inch 16:9 panel is about 23.53 inches wide before its housing. Two such panels with 0.5 inches added to each housing and a 0.5-inch gap span about 48.56 inches. The result is an estimate for flat, equally sized screens in a straight line. Curved housings, angled displays, portrait layouts, different screen sizes and depth require their own measurements.
What to do with the result
If the span is close to your available width, find the exact manufacturer's outside dimensions and repeat the calculation. Then use the fit checklist to assess the rest of the arrangement. A negative result does not tell you whether overhang is safe.
Unit conversion uses 1 inch = 2.54 centimeters. Screen diagonals remain in inches when desk measurements switch to centimeters. A copied plan link contains the measurements in its URL; anyone you share it with can see them.
